• Enrichment in EFS

Through flexible grouping, leveled Math and Language Arts instruction will take place on a daily basis on each grade level.  A collection of advanced Math and Language Arts activities have been created for individual instruction within the grade level classrooms.

Classroom teachers may identify children based on tests and classroom performance in each subject area.  As the teacher begins a new skill or concept, students who have a secure handle on the skill are selected to work on the enrichment activities.  Those who need further enrichment or individualized programming will be referred to the Intervention and Referral Services Committee.

In addition, Pre-K-6th grade students will meet once a week for 40 minutes of Technology Enrichment.  The children will be completing basic computer skills, typing, and cross-curricular projects such as; educational website creation, Webquests, Podcasts, and I-Movies as culminating activities demonstrating their knowledge of the content learned.

The 6th grade will be working on a law unit with parent volunteers.  Mayor Abbott will be the judge in a Mock Trial event, which will be held in the spring.  The 6th graders will also be attending a trip with Mr. Abbott to the World Trade Center sight and will get a historic view of the buildings and the events that happened on 9/11.

Essex Fells School continues to participate in the Essex County Consortium for Gifted and Talented.  Students in Grades 3-6 will participate in a number of activities with other schools in Essex County.  Topics include Problem Solving, Poetry Alive, and Totally Global to name a few.

We are very excited about all of the above activities and look forward to another amazing year.
