Welcome to Mrs. McNish's STEAM Lab!!

I am excited about the new school year.  Your children will invent, design, and create a multitude of new and exciting projects.  This year we will be working in the new STEAM Lab that will offer a variety of opportunities.

Our STEAM program will be taught in Pre-K through 6th grade.  This program unites the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math.  We will also incorporate Language Arts and Social Studies when a lesson crosses over into the world of STEAM.

The NJ Department of Education defines STEAM as a way to teach how all things relate to each other, in school and in life. It’s more fun than traditional learning styles and makes more sense to all types of learners because it is based on the natural ways that people learn and are interested in things.

STEAM provides an avenue for formally teaching the inter-relationships of how subjects relate in real-life. STEAM-style education can be enjoyably and meaningfully delivered in more engaging and deeply embedding ways within the already well-established realm of education.

Here at Essex Fells, I work with the Pre-K through 6th grade teachers on new and exciting STEAM projects. Throughout the year we will be busy exploring many new subjects and how they can all relate to each other.

Please visit the "STEAM" tab to get a closer look at what is going on in the classrooms.

Every year the 6th grade students are encouraged to join Art Club.  This club gives them the opportunity to make a personalized ceiling tile.  Please visit the “Art Club” tab to see when classes will begin.

Donations!! Donations!! Donations!! The STEAM Lab welcomes your donations. Most supplies on the list below are recyclable materials commonly found around the home, while others are supplies you may be willing to donate. Throughout the year, many projects will be created from the reuse and re-purposing of everyday common objects. If you have other unique items that are not on the list but think they could be used in STEAM, do not hesitate to send them in. We appreciate any donations to use in class throughout the year. We are very creative artists/engineers and can find a use for most things!

    • Magazines/Newspaper
    • Empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls
    • Coffee cans with lids
    • Coffee filters
    • Large sheets of cardboard

While some people may consider these items trash, you will be surprised by the creative works of art your children will turn them into!

     Every child is an artist!!
